Within is a collection of 20 sculptures varying in size, created for the relaunch of the Lock up as response to Ash Island and its occupants in the exhibition “Ash Island and its Transformations”.

Johnson has suspended cocoon like industrial sculptures made using traditional Aboriginal dilly bags and fishing net weaving techniques. The sculptures have been created with recycled industrial materials representative of the changing nature of the island occupants.

The cocoon shapes resemble the work of the Scott sisters, as well as the lands ability to rejuvenate, with thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who work on the Island each year.
